We live in a time that stress is a part of everybody’s lives. And it seems obvious that this could be the main reason to meditate. But meditation has been around for thousands of years in many cultures and maybe stress has always been a part of life in one way or another. But the main reason why you should meditate is simply that it improves your life. It’s that simple!

1. Meditate for a better health

The traditional Buddhist Meditation method can decrease your blood pressure, your heartbeat and your concerns. It can also help cure diseases in combination with traditional or altrnative medicine.

2. Meditate to achieve mental capabilities

Learn to discipline your mind and use this mental capability to improve your attitude in your work and your personal life. Learn to focus and to concentrate and this will help to work under great pressure and will improve your family life.

3. Meditate to become aware of body and mind

Nowadays we are continuously “attacked” with all kinds of stimuli, radio, television, publicity, billboards, … Our mind is always at work and we get distracted very easily. Meditation will learn you how to live in the present and be happy about the life you have.

4. Meditate to balance your emotions

Stress, anger, jealousy, … can effect your mental state in a very negative way. Complaining about everything and everyone is also such a negative way of looking at life. Meditating helps you to turn those negative feelings and emotions in positive ones. Looking at all the good things you have instead of looking at everything you don’t have.

5. Meditate to solve problems

Meditation will help solve problems. It can solve the problem itself or it can be a support, an addition to a treatment. It can help you get rid of addictions, help you in a relationship, at work, learn to like yourself. There are so many problems for each and everyone of us, meditationcan help you solve them.

6. Meditate for personal growth

The Dalai Lama said: “he who knows another person is intelligent, he who knows himself is enlightened”. Meditation will help you to know yourself, your life expectations, your real you. It will help you change your vision of life if you want to. maybe you have a materialistic vision now and you want to change this to a more universal vision of the power of life and intelligent energy.

I hope I was able to “enlighten” you a little bit about why you could and maybe should meditate and that it is not only a way to relax but has many more benefits to mind and body.

The meditation techniques are divided in 4 categories.

Focus Meditation – Thinking Meditation – Visualization Meditation – Experience Meditation

Focus Meditation

In this technique you use an object in front of you, this can be anything you like, a picture, a candle, a flower but it can also be your heartbeat or your breating. The aim is for your mind to stop thinking constantly and to calm down. Focusing at an object helps you to make your mind stable and to put yourself in the center. It’s not easy to stop thinking completely but you will discover patterns in your thinking and your emotions.
Focusing during meditation will help you to focus better in your daily life.

Thinking Meditation

In this technique you will be thinking about something, a problem you have, or about a quality you want to develop. You meditate about a subject by thinking about it in a focused way, with the intention to make a positive change in yourself. This way you practice your mind in being more positive. This is not the same as visualization meditation.

Visualization Meditation

In this technique you create an image in your mind. Visualization meditation helps you to create your reality and to achieve your wishes and intentions, to change your behavior and even to change the body process. It takes practice to learn how to visualize but you will learn it quickly.

Experience Meditation

In this meditation technique you will be guided into experiencing what happens. This can be by focusing on fruit intensely and stimulating your sense or meditating with a partner.

Every meditation can have another purpose. Meditation techniques are means to achieve a goal and not the goal itself. Try to determine the motivation why you meditate before you start meditating.
Start your meditation with saying a sentence out loud. “I meditate today to become a happier person” or “I meditate today to relieve myself from stress”.

This will be a huge benefit for your meditation session.

Now lets talk about what meditation really is.

Meditation is focusing your mind. That’s it, plain and simple. reading a book, watching a movie, thinking about all the work you still have to do, focusing on a movement you have to learn in your yoga or tai chi class all that are examples of meditation. Not a traditional way of looking at meditation I know. But it’s what it is. Nothing more nothing less.

When people discuss meditation they often talk about mystical religious occupancy that requires hours of special positions and holy traditions. Well that’s not quite it.

Your mind is in a constant movement, think about it you are always thinking, jumping from one idea, one thought to another. Always restless searching for solutions, thinking about things to do, responsibilities, etc…

Now meditation is not mystical, from another world or inaccessible. It is not privileged for an elite group or a religious people. Meditation can be used by everyone. One of the main benefits of meditation is that it eases your mind and body and helps you to relax. It improves your daily life and teaches you how your mind and emotions work and develope positive habits for your body, mind and soul.

Many meditations are inspired by spiritual traditions but they do not imply a certain belief in a god or a higher purpose. You can meditate just to improve your life, be more relaxed or to be a happier person.

This website will offer you all different kinds of meditation and meditation techniques. Be aware of the techniques you will use and look at the effect they will have. Maybe you want to experiment with different techniques and you will feel that you have more benefit from one technique than the other.

Or maybe you just want to vary some techniques. It’s all possible.

I apologize if in the text are some grammar errors but this is not so important, the art of meditation is a true enrichment to your life if you take the time to get to learn it. I hope you will, and we are here to help you all the way.
